If travelling abroad isn’t an option, we have lots of fun things to do on a staycation with us at Bryn Meadows.
Whether you’re looking to take a break from your busy schedule, make lasting memories with your family, or enjoy some downtime in the heart of Wales, we have everything you need to design your perfect staycation.
There are plenty of fun things to do on your staycation outside of the resort. We’re lucky to be located in the heart of South Wales, surrounded by some of the best scenery, walks, and attractions that Wales has to offer.
Wales offers plenty of activities for those seeking an adventure, and mountain biking is one of them. BikePark Wales has a host of bike trails for cycling enthusiasts of all abilities. Located in Gethin Woods, BikePark Wales has lots of trails and mountains to ride. The trails are graded, so you know which one will suit your ability. Don’t worry if you haven’t brought your bike with you – there is bike hire available, as well as a shop and a Woodland Café.
Cwmcarn in Caerphilly is also a must for serious mountain bikers. The scenery and landscape are breath-taking too.
If you’re looking to discover a part of history in Wales, then Caerphilly Castle is a must-see. Constructed by Gilbert de Clare in the 13th century, Caerphilly Castle is the largest in Wales. Since its inception, Caerphilly Castle has been reconstructed with dams, dredged moats, and restored bridges, towers, and gatehouses for visitors to explore and find out more about its history. It was also a filming location for several episodes of Doctor Who!
Likewise, Castell Coch is a vision of an imaginary medieval world. Castell Coch (Red Castle) was once a playground for the rich and powerful. Today, you can take a tour of Castell Coch and marvel at the extraordinary architecture of William Burges, as well as explore the ruins and grounds of the 13th-century castle once used as a hunting lodge by Marcher lord Gilbert de Clare.
There’s a reason why Cardiff is one of Europe’s best capital cities to live. Cardiff city is known for its vibrant atmosphere, bars, food, and shopping.
For those looking to explore the urban back streets of the city, Cardiff boasts a great food-and-drinks scene with lots of markets to explore. For serious shoppers, take a wander down the old arcades and support the local businesses, or go to Cardiff’s Indoor Market for lots of bargains and unique bites to eat.
Cardiff also has plenty of activities for adrenaline seekers with a climbing centre, ice rink, and white-water rafting centre dotted around the city.
The valleys offer many family-friendly activities and a variety of attractions, all a short distance from the resort. With lots of green landscape, there are plenty of parks to enjoy a family day out with a picnic, including Parc Bryn Bach in Tredegar and Parc Cwm Darran in Caerphilly.
For families looking to try something different on their staycation, Wales offers plenty of activities to try. Parkwood Outdoors Dolygaer has plenty of activities to choose from, including hiking, archery, rock climbing, caving, and canoeing. Or, you could climb the walls at the Summit Centre in Bargoed, or go swimming outdoors at Lido Ponty.
Find your epic adventure.
