They say a lot of business is done on the golf course, but what if you don't play? Or don’t have enough confidence in your skills? On Friday 30th June, in conjunction with local networking groups, the Bryn Meadows conference and events team hosted a business networking meeting in the newly extended and refurbished Winners Bar.
After everyone had their coffee fix and filled up on breakfast rolls, facilitated 'around the table' introductions were made. This was the easy bit - it then dawned on everyone that they would have to pick up a golf club and play golf. PGA Professional David Pocock put everyone at ease, by saying it is ok to be rubbish - if you've never played before, or even picked up a club, how can you expect to be the best? However, he guaranteed that they would feel more confident after the end of the session.
The group were split in two, with one half staying with David in the golf simulator and the other half going off with other PGA Professional Katy Edwards to the outdoor First Swing Golf Academy course. Out on the 9 hole course, Katy gave a quick overview of course safety, how to hold a club, and which one to use. Delegates were able to tee off and putt, whilst Katy made pointers. All came off the course feeling much more confident in their golfing ability.
Meanwhile in the golf simulator, other skills were covered including driving, chipping and putting. A competition was set up for longest drive, straightest line and nearest to the pin. This was followed by Zombie Golf, a game usually played at our children's birthday parties but enjoyed by big kids too. This is where zombies invade the golf course, and you need to aim the golf ball at them to avoid them capturing you, resulting in game over.
Group and individual coaching and lessons are available weekly at Bryn Meadows, held outdoors, in the indoor putting studio or golf simulator. "Had a great morning at Bryn Meadows for their "Golf for Non-golfers" event. The laid-back and welcoming atmosphere made it easy to strike up conversations with other newcomers like myself. The coaches were obviously very experienced at teaching the basic skills and warning us off developing bad habits! The tour of the restaurant and spa facilities was a revelation: who knew that there was so many treatments and facilities on offer? It's a fantastic Resort hotel with a golf course attached! A little gem in the Valleys." Kevin Parry from Eazi Apps
The next event is taking place on Friday 22nd September 2017.
