Between 10th-16th of July the pool was closed for maintenance. The pool was completely drained, and had new fittings and light bulbs installed in Fusion Spa & Wellness. The whole poolside area had a deep clean, some areas were repainted and the decking was jet washed.
Why is swimming pool maintenance important? Not only was it essential to maintain healthy water, it was also crucial to us to improve the surroundings and facilities going forward, and to create the right relaxing ambiance.
Train The Trainer
What is Train the Trainer? Twice a year members are able to get their revenge on the personal training team, by flipping roles and putting them through their paces. How does Train the Trainer work? On Sunday 16th July members paid a £10 donation for a 15 minute time slot, with all donations going directly to Velindre Cancer Centre. £300 was raised in total.
As Justin broke his knee a few months ago, he was excused from the physical activity and was allowed to be ‘The Waterboy’ for the day. He also advised the participants on how to train the trainer. This left Andrew, Abi, Adam and David to feel the burn – including doing over 1000 burpees. The event always ends with the team jumping into the pond near the 10th tee.
60 Hour Relay
The next challenge has already been set. Starting at 4am on Friday 22nd September a 60 hour relay will begin. How does the relay race work? Members can choose a time slot and pay a £10 donation to run, walk or jog. The donations will be split between Age Cymru and Velindre Cancer Centre.
The relay will end on Sunday 24th September at 4pm, when the annual Members and Guests BBQ will start. Members can get a complimentary ticket to the event from Fusion Spa or Winners Bar. As well as the BBQ, there will be entertainment from Bryn Meadows resident DJ. Guests can attend with a member for £5 per person.
On Sunday 3rd September Andrew, Abi and Katy from the Golf Team will be taking part in the Cardiff 10k as part of their training plan to run the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday 1st October.
