More than just ‘taste’ at Blas Restaurant
23 Apr

Blas is the Welsh word taste, so the team use the best ingredients from local suppliers to create modern dishes full of flavour.  However, for some the restaurant has become so much more than that – a successful career.

Chris ‘Biscuits’ Burton has worked at Bryn Meadows for 6 years.  Our gentle giant can now be seen managing events across all of meeting and function suites which could be up to 750 guests at one time.  The role is pivotal to the day to day running of the resort, and will be the wellbeing of staff and guests across all departments including the hotel and Fusion Spa and Wellness. Before being a Duty Manager he started working on weekends on the bar in Blas Restaurant, before moving over to Winners Bar and Golf Supplies helping golfers book their tee times.

Another member of the team who has worked at the resort for some time is Kirsty Whyatt, also a Duty Manager.  Having worked in several positions including on Reception and Hotel Reservations and Events before moving over to Operations.  She has a fantastic understanding of guest needs and how the resort is run.

Last year, Lauren Gamlin was appointed as Restaurant Manager, having worked at the resort for 9 years.  The phrase ‘working your way up the ladder’ certainly applies to her, starting as serving staff working hours around university (studying Hospitality Management), before becoming a supervisor. She is a highly respected by her team, as well as other teams at the resort which has been demonstrated by her eagerness to learn and her drive to succeed. She is currently responsible for 25 members of staff.

Blas Restaurant is open seven days a week for breakfast, afternoon tea (including seasonal specialities), lunch and dinner, and traditional roasts on Sundays.  The stunning restaurant offers spectacular views of the surrounding valleys including a glimpse of Pen-y-Fan and the Brecon Beacons, and is ideal for a family celebration, catch up with friends, or an intimate dinner for two.  Private dining, baby showers, birthday and bridal parties are also catered for in our Captains Room and Beacons Suite.
