At Bryn Meadows Golf, Hotel and Spa, Golf is at the heart of all that we do and we believe that it is no longer categorized to one demographic. Awareness of the opportunities within the sport are certainly being highlighted more often, especially with an industry-wide commitment to a more inclusive culture, enabling women and children to flourish and reach their potential at all levels of sport.
Having said this we are very proud to have not one but two PGA Professional Lady Golfers on our team. Katy Edwards, joined the team in 2016 and has many fantastic accreditations to her name including being the first lady to tee off in the WPGA Lombard Trophy and even had a hole in one at the competition. Natasha Gobey then joined the team in February 2018. She grew up in RCT and started playing at 11 years old before turning Pro in 2012. Tasha has represented Wales Under 18’s Team and even won the Wales Ladies Golf Medal in 2016. Both are very keen to get more children and women into the game. Visit there specific blogs to find out more about them.
Getting Ladies into Golf
We offer weekly ladies coaching on an individual basis or a weekly group lesson. These are held on our First Swing Academy Course or during poor weather in our Indoor Putting Studio or state of the art Golf Simulator. To encourage ladies and girls to start, the first lesson is free of charge. We have recently received a Women in Golf Charter from the R&A marking our support for Women in Golf. We have also increased our lady membership by introducing 17 new ladies to the game on a New2Golf Membership scheme under our coaching programme. We currently have 34 Ladies on our coaching programme and the ultimate aim is to get as many ladies as possible to graduate from lessons to, and playing the Championship Course.
The biggest challenge is just getting started. Some women can convince themselves that they do not have any hand-eye coordination. If this was true you would struggle to do basic things like eating and drinking. It does not take long to gain confidence in hitting the golf ball.” Katy Edwards, PGA Professional Golfer at Bryn Meadows Golf Hotel & Spa.
Growing our Children’s Coaching
We currently have a total of 89 children on our coaching programme. We invite all juniors to come along and have a free trial on our First Swing Academy Course before committing to membership. The nine hole course opened in September 2014 with funding from Sport Wales. Lessons are available for ages 3 plus. Now, Wales’ largest Junior Golf Academy it gives access to weekly competitions and coaching groups. The aim is to take complete beginners to accomplished golfers so that they can play in full competitions, growing their confidence and skills along their golfing journey. A clear pathway has been created for our juniors with the introduction of an intermediate membership this is ideal for 18-29 year olds making the financial step from being a junior member to full member more attainable.
Introducing our New2Golf Men’s programme
We have also recently set up a New2Golf Men’s coaching session, this is ideal for men looking to get into the sport, as well as those looking to improve. As an incentive to our new men to continue their development all beginner golfers will have access to a New2Golf one year membership at Bryn Meadows Golf Club on completion of the coaching course. We already have 5 men signed up as a direct link to the New2golfTaster Day that we ran on the 11th May 2019. Keep an eye out for more coming soon.
“It is never too late to start, or challenge your perceptions of the game. Do not let age, your gender or any existing injuries put you off. It is important to find a club where you feel comfortable, and build comradery with other beginners and established members.” Katy Edwards, PGA Professional Golfer at Bryn Meadows Golf Hotel & Spa
We offer tailored coaching programmes for all ages and abilities to help each junior or adult develop their game. All payments are made via standing order on the 1st of each month and we have 4 categories.
It’s our aim to keep breaking down the longstanding perception of golf that it is either too expensive or prejudice and make it affordable and inclusive to everyone.
