Meet the team – Front Desk Reception Team.

The work of a hotel receptionist is one that is regarded as the face of the hotel. It is often seen as the best possible position from which to start your hotel career as the day to day duties vary and you meet a lot of interesting people every day.

Our reception team work closely with other departments to ensure all guest needs are met and ideally exceeded. Our hotel reception is headed up by Angela Davies our Front of House Manager. Angela has been at the resort for over 15 years and has a wealth of experience plus is a firm favourite with our members and guests. She is supported by her team of girls Gemma, Kirsty, Lucy and Nicola who work extremely hard and are always enthusiastic, friendly and have the natural desire of wanting to help.

So what does the day of a hotel receptionist consist of?

You can be forgiven for thinking that being a hotel receptionist means that all you have to do is look presentable, be smiley and answer a few guest questions. However, the reality is very different and a hotel receptionist is considered to be the hub of a hotel. Everything they do looks effortless and elegant yet requires a lot of skill and preparation.

Daily duties of the reception team vary depending on the shift that they are allocated.   If they are on the early shift this is typically 7am until 3pm and on this shift they will check the handover diary as they all work different times it is vital that they communicate between the change over. They then look at the departures for that day and proceed with check outs for the day and inform housekeeping when the guest checks out.  After all of the rooms are ready the reception then check the arrivals and prepare the room cards, at this time they will then check if anyone has ordered additional extras for their arrival, place in the room and write welcome cards, this just gives the guest arrival an extra special touch. Alongside this the reception team also answer telephone calls and redirect to the relevant department as well as meet and greet any visitors. This continues through to the late shift, however this is when they check the arriving guests in and welcome them. As well as preparing the reservations and getting the registration cards ready for the following day. Reception also process all of the gift vouchers that are purchased on our website and can also issue them from the front desk.

Ultimately the whole reception team’s main duty is looking after our guests from the very first moment they set foot into the hotel until the time they check out. They are responsible for the first impression a guest makes on the hotel and will set the tone of their whole stay. The reception team are responsible for enhancing the guest experience even before they arrive. A way they do this is by calling guests the day before they arrive and confirming all of their stay details, they also offer to add special extras to the room for arrival. If guests are coming to us for a special occasion they may want to add a bottle of bubbly, or add on dinner for the evening in our Blas restaurant, this is also a good time to highlight special requests, note preferences as well arranging a birthday/anniversary treats. They are also responsible for welcoming VIP guests and coordinating their plans with other departments.

Lucy’s favourite room is 201 as its got a real open plan feel and looks very grand on entering.

Weirdest thing that has been asked to put in a room is a Harry Potter moaning murtal wall print to stick on the toilet seat.

Most popular item asked to be put in a room is a bottle of prosecco.
